New Delhi, Oct 05: In stepped up vigil in view of increasing infiltration bids, army shot dead 10 militants in Jammu and Kashmir and seized for the first time heavy calibre weapons from terrorists, a defence spokesman said today. Four heavily armed infiltrators were shot dead in Poonch area last night and four Russian made medium grenade launchers and 18 rocket grenades were recovered from them, he said.

The spokesman said this was the first time that such high calibre weapons were recovered from militants which was a clear indication that Pakistan was arming them. In separate encounters with army, three militants were killed in Badgam, two in Rajouri and one in Pulwama district.

The militants killed in Rajouri district's Thanamandi area were identified as Harkat-e-Islami's Shaheen-ul-Sleem alias Ali Shan and Juned, both Pakistani nationals.

The spokesman said the total number of militants killed in the state since January this year has reached an all time high of 850. In the past one month 250 militants have been killed, he said. According to intelligence sources there are over 2,000 militants waiting to infiltrate into the state from staging camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

In another operation in Bandipore in Baramulla, three Kashmiri youths, who were forcibly being taken for training in terrorist camps in Pakistan, were rescued by army, the spokesman said.
