Hyderabad, Oct 25: Asian Games champion Korea captalised on the chances that came their way and struck once in each half to beat South Africa 2-0 to sail into the semi finals of the men's hockey competition at the Ist Afro-Asian Games here today. For Korea this was their second straight victory having beaten Ghana 3-0 in their opener of pool A and for South Africa first defeat in two outing. They had drawn their first match against Malaysia.
In a fast paced match, the Koreans displayed better understanding and made some very penetrating moves which rattled the South Africans.
South African who desperately needed a victory, played well but their forwards let them down. They missed couple of good chances and paid the penalty.
Koreans in the first half adopted hit and run tactics but slowed down the pace of the game in the second session. The Africans time and again raided the rival citadel but Craig Fulton, Ian Haley Kevin Chree just could not earn the breakthrough.
