Thousands arrested for staging dharna in Chennai
Chennai, Jan 08: Over 11,000 workers belonging to various trade unions were taken into custody in the state today for holding dharna against privatisation of public sector undertakings by the Centre and Tamil Nadu government.

The various organisations which participated in the
dharna were Intuc, Citu, Aituc, Hms and labour progressive
front of DMK.
In Chennai, the picketing programme was led by senior Citu leader T K Rangarajan. In Dharmapuri district, 230 persons were arrested in two places, when they attempted to stop trains, police said.
