Kolkata, May 10: Congress today claimed that hundreds of voters in Murshidabad and Purulia districts of West Bengal were not being allowed to exercise their franchise even after production of supporting documents like land deeds. WBPCC working president Pradip Bhattacharya, who met state Chief Electoral Officer Basudev Bandyopadhyay this morning, told reporters that he had sought the CEO's intervention in ensuring that electors were allowed to cast votes in the two districts.
"We are receiving reports from many polling booths in the two districts that those without voter Id cards were not being allowed to cast votes even upon production of land patta documents. We have asked the CEO to immediately ask officials concerned to look into the matter," Bhattacharya said. The Congress leader claimed that two polling booths -- numbers 91 and 93 -- in the Balurghat area of South Dinajpur had been interchanged without prior notice creating a lot of confusion among the voters.
