London, July 21: In an effort to reduce the number of rail accidents in the country, the Indian Railways has developed an anti-collision device to check mishaps which would be introduced after field trial soon, railways minister Nitish Kumar has said.
Besides, the railways have also decided to form a 10-year railway safety plan and it would be presented before Parliament during the monsoon session commencing today, the minister said while participating in a British television programme.
Claiming that rail accidents in India were on decline, Kumar said in the 60s there were about 3,000 accidents per year whereas last year there were only 350 accidents.
"Steps are being taken to minimise the accidents and it would be really good if there are no accidents," he said.
Refuting the allegation that the commuters had lost trust in the railways, the minister said the number of people travelling in trains was on the increase.
