Noida, Jan 15: A total shutdown was observed in Noida and Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh in protest against the state government's decision to abolish Gautam Budh Nagar district. The bandh, called by various opposition parties and traders' organisations, was complete with shops and other business establishments remaining closed, police said, adding the public transport system has also been paralysed.
Traffic on roads leading to Delhi and other towns around Noida and Greater Noida was also affected as protestors sealed the border check posts, they said. No untoward incident was reported from the area, police said and added that the impact of the bandh was also seen in rural areas.
The state government on Tuesday decided to disband four divisions and nine districts of the state. The traders fear there business would be hampered by the move. The four divisions which have been abolished are Devipatan, Basti, Mirzapur and Saharanpur while the districts which cease to exist are Jyotibaphule Nagar, Shrawasti, Mahamaya Nagar (Hathras), Sant Kabir Nagar, Kausambi, Auriya, Gautam Budh Nagar, Chandauli and Ambedkar Nagar.
