New Delhi, Oct 23: BJP today rejected demand from some NDA allies for repeal of Pota saying that the anti-terror law should be used by state governments more vigorously against terrorists and anti-nationals working against the country.
"We want to continue with Pota and there is no question of repealing it", BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said addressing a press conference here.
Asked to comment on DMK president M Karunanidhi expressing dissatisfaction over the central ordinance and demanding its repeal Naidu said, "We are of the firm opinion that Pota should continue. Pota should be used by state governments against terrorists, anti-nationals and people who are trying to subvert the interest of the country". He said that BJP welcomed the decision of the government to amend Pota making it mandatory for Central and state governments to accept the recommendation of the Central Review Committee.
He said this would strengthen sanctity of the legislation and serve as check and balance over the misuse, if any. MDMK, whose leader Vaiko is detained under Pota, has also demanded repeal of the "draconian" legislation.
