Indians finish creditable fourth in world championship
Mumbai, Sept 10: The Indian team of Laxminarayan Adhikari and P Kalishekhar finished a creditable fourth in the junior world chess championship for the visually impaired which concluded at Pontivedra in Spain yesterday.

According to information received here today, the Indian pair garnered 9.5 points to finish fourth behind Russia (14), Spain (13) and Poland (12).
However, in the individual event, which was won by San Jose of Spain, Andhra Pradesh-based Kalishekhar finished tenth with five points to his credit while West Bengal based Adhikari was eleventh with 4.5 points. Though Kalishekhar had finished sixth after drawing his game with Brianso of Spain in the ninth and final round, he had to settle for the tenth spot on the basis of progressive scores which was much below Lukasz of Poland, Fernandez of Spain, Chan of England and Drazetic of Croatia who finished in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth positions respectively.
Though Nasobin of Russia too finished with eight points as Jose, after beating Adhikari, Jose was declared the winner on better progressive score.
