Four policemen were killed and three seriously injured on Sunday morning when a suicide squad of suspected militants attacked a police post in in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
Army Brigadier P.C. Das said the attack had been carried out at a police post at Banihal, 180 km north of Jammu.
The policemen were asleep when the militants opened fire with rifle grenades and then sprayed the position with gunfire.
The area has been cordoned off and additional troops rushed to the spot to hunt down the militants.
Although no Kashmiri militant group has claimed responsibility, the Indian Army suspects hardline militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba had carried out the attack. Bureau Report
