Jaipur, Oct 11: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said the proposed reservation for economically backward classes (EBCs) should not be given by curtailing the existing quotas for SC, ST and OBCs.
The reservation to poor people of upper castes should be
given by constitutional amendment, Gehlot said in a letter to
the Prime Minister.
He also opposed Union government's proposal for constituting a commission for deciding the reservation of ECBs saying it would take a long time delaying the implementation of reservation for new category of people.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill should be introduced in the coming session of Parliament to check rising of any social tension over the issue, he said. Bureau Report
