Mumbai, Sept 22: Maharashtra government today said it hopes that the formula devised by it to determine the fee structure in private medical colleges would be approved by the Supreme Court.
"If the apex court has agreed to the Karnataka government's formula of fee structure, then ours akin to the neighbouring state will also be approved," Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here.
He said government would be filing an appeal in the Supreme Court over the issue of fee structure in private medical educational institutions. He said after the state government devised the fee structure, the agitation by students seeking admissions to medical courses over exorbitant fees has subsided.
The government, on a directive of the Mumbai High Court, would soon constitute a committee, to look into the issue of fee structure, he said adding that the state has already written to the chief justice of the high court asking him to name a retired judge to head the panel. The committee's decision on fee structure will be binding on the government, he replied to a query.
In reply to another query, Shinde said the state government was yet to receive any communication from the Railway Ministry over levy of surcharge on suburban train commuters.
