New Delhi, Aug 20: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today flagged off six "Rajiv Gandhi Mobile Diagnostic Units" for Punjab to make available modern advanced diagnostic facilities for people living in remote inaccessible areas of the state.
Coinciding with the 59th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress president flagged off these units from her residence in the presence of senior party leaders Ambika Soni, Ahmed Patel, Mohsina Kidwai, R L Bhatia and several state leaders from Punjab.
Punjab government has launched the project to help people living in far-flung areas of the state, particularly womem to undergo tests which would otherwise not be available to them.
The mobile unit would be manned by a medical officer, a pathologist, a lab technician, one opthalmic assistant and one woman.
Gandhi also distributed 30 tricycles to physically challenged persons, eight mobile medical ambulance, hearing aides and brailers for blinds on the occasion.



She also announced 45 scholarships of Rs 50,000 each to physically challenged persons to be given by Rajiv Gandhi foundation.
