Islamabad, Sept 07: The 3-0 Test series win notwithstanding, the Pakistan Cricket Board has slammed its team for almost gifting the third match away to minnows Bangladesh.
Though Pakistan managed to win the third Test at Multan by one wicket, PCB chief Lt Gen Tauqir Zia said he was annoyed with the performance of the players.
"The Pakistan team played poorly. I think if the club level players had played this match, they would have performed better," Zia was quoted as saying in the media here today. Gen Zia, a serving military General who retries from the Army later this month, said he was satisfied with the performance of the bowlers but disappointed with the efforts put in by batsmen.
He said resting of Yousaf Youhana was a big mistake of the selection committee. "The selectors should not have totally relied on Younis Khan who was playing his first match of the season."
He praised the performance of Bangladesh and said they were improving day by day after their tour of Australia. Bangladesh, who have lost 23 of their 24 Tests and have won only three one-day internationals, gave a scare to Pakistan in the third Test before the home team scampered to a one-wicket win.
