Patna, June 13: Leaders of BJP, Samata and JD (U) today decided to field a common NDA candidate for July-10 polls for 24 seats of Bihar Legislative Council. A decision to this effect was taken at the state NDA leader meeting here at the BJP headquarters, BJP state president Nand Kishore Yadav told reporters after the meeting.

He said the parties had been told to prepare their own list of candidates and the senior leaders of the NDA would meet again here on June 16 to take a decision on the selection of a common nominee.

"There will be no quota for the three parties and candidates will be selected on the basis of his winning potential," he said.

Today's meeting was attended by BJP's Nand Kishore Yadav and party's national secretary Harendra Pratap, Samata legislature party leader Upendra Kushwaha, Samata national secretary Satish Kumar and party vice-president Shayam Sundar Singh Dheeraj while the JD(U) was represented by state president Shiv Nanda Jha and former Bihar minister Ramnath Thakur.

The CPI, CPI-M and other members of left coordination committee had also recently announced to field common candidates for the council polls.

The election for the 24 council seats for representatives from local bodies were being held after two years following a directive of the Patna High Court.
