Chandigarh, Jan 06: Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala today ruled out any meeting with his Punjab counterpart Amarinder Singh on Sutlej Yamuna Link canal issue. In a letter to Singh this evening, Chautala said "most of these issues (of river water and territorial disputes between two states) are not new and were raised by Punjab before Supreme Court orally as well as in writing".
Regretting that Singh had failed to respond to his letter in March last year, Chautala said, "in these circumstances no useful purpose would be achieved by holding a meeting at this stage".
Chautala said "I also do not feel it necessary to give my view point on issues like transfer Chandigarh to Punjab or Hindi speaking areas of Punjab to Haryana or proposed Yamuna basin allocation ...as in my opinion these issues are absolutely out of context in reference to the legal mandatory obligation caused upon Punjab for implementing the judgement dated January 15,2002 passed by supreme court" requiring completion of SYL canal within one year.
