Patna, June 19: Bihar government has suspended 16 doctors in saran district for remaining absent from the work for a long period after expiry of their leave, health minister Shakuni Choudhary said today.
The doctors posted at different hospitals in the Saran district were suspended on the basis of reports sent by the district civil surgeon yesterday, Choudhary said.
With this, the total number of doctors suspended in Bihar for absenting from work rose to 90 in the last three months.
The department has launched a special drive to identify more such erring doctors and paramedical staff, he said adding that more heads would roll in near future.
"I have instructed the Regional Deputy Directors (RDD) to carry on regular inspections in their area of jurisdiction and sent report about the erring doctors every week directly to the health department. Those found abstaining from duty will not be spared," the minister said.
He said he himself would be making frequent rounds of different districts to see whether works were being carried on properly in the hospitals and health centres.
The government is committed to provide better medicare services to the people particularly in the rural areas and it will not tolerate any lacunae in this regard, Choudhary added.
