Chennai, Oct 29: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ruled out continuation of the free power supply to farmers in the state, saying that even Punjab had recently discontinued such a scheme. "Only two states in the country, Tamil Nadu and Punjab were implementing the scheme. Recently, the Congress government in Punjab had abolished the scheme," she said in her brief intervention when Congress member, C Gnanasekharan, requested the government not to scrap the scheme, keeping the interests of poor farmers in mind.
Gnanasekharan stated that the situation in Punjab was altogether different from that of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu should not follow Punjab's example in this respect, he added. Bureau Report
