An armed special combat force is being raised to effectively counter the peoples war group in forest areas of West Bengal's Midnapore district, a senior police official said on Thursday.
The combat force, undergoing training in handling SLRS and AK-47s, would instill confidence among the people and would be deployed in the wooded areas of Midnapore bordering Bankura district, and the states of Bihar and Orissa, superintendent of police K L Meena told a press conference.
PWG activists were repulsed from Lalgarh, Ramgarh, Salbani and Choto Angaria villages, where they had been terrorising people, by a special police force, Meena said. To a question, the SP said the PWG were receiving sophisticated arms from Andhra Pradesh via Jharkhand, Bihar and Orissa.
