Kansas City Chiefs prove invincible in NFL

Oakland, Oct 22: The Kansas City Chiefs remain unbeaten in the NFL with a 17-10 victory over the Oakland Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs made history by blanking the Oakland Raiders for three quarters on the way to a 17-10 win in the NFL on Monday (October 20). Never before had the Chiefs (7-0) held the Raiders (2-5) scoreless on their own turf for three periods. It was payback time for Kansas City, who lost 24-0 in Oakland in the final game of last season. The Chiefs were made to sweat at the end with the Raiders putting up 10 points in the final eight minutes and six seconds and driving to the two-yard line as time expired.
The Chiefs recorded their first touchdown after 4:16, quarterback Trent Green scoring on a two-yard run.
Morten Andersen booted over from 37 yards a minute from the half to put the Chiefs up 10-0 and it stayed that way until Oakland kicker Sebastian Janikowski drilled a 27-yard field goal with eight minutes remaining to put the Raiders on the board.
Oakland returner Phillip Buchanon played a big part in the final Kansas City touchdown, mishandling a punt to give the Chiefs a first down on the 11-yard line with 6:34 to go.
A minute and a half later Priest Holmes, who ran for a game-high 123 yards, went two yards up the middle to provide the winning points.
But the Raiders were not done, again drawing to within seven points when Zack Crockett plunged a yard with 2:25 on the clock.
Quarterback Rich Gannon was long gone by the time the Raiders rallied, having left at the half with a damaged right shoulder.
Back-up Marques Tuiasosopo, a second-round pick in 2001, was at the helm when Oakland came to life. After drawing to within seven points, the Raiders almost tied the game on their last drive.
Tuiasosopo took Oakland from the six-yard line to within striking distance with seconds to play before hooking up with Tim Brown, who was wrestled down by Jerome Woods and Greg Wesley a yard from the end zone to bring the game to a conclusion.
Kansas City coach Dick Vermeil was full of praise for the Raiders. "Those kids played their hearts out, they pushed us to the limit," he told reporters.
"We were fortunate to get a big play on the kicking game," said a relieved Vermeil, who was making his first Monday night appearance in 22 years.
Oakland finished with 357 total yards to 319 for Kansas City.
