Justice Venkataswamy Commission, probing the alleged corruption by some public figures and officials in defence deals in the wake of Tehelka expose, would start preliminary hearing from Wednesday. Justice Venkataswamy has already issued notices to about 29 people though there has been some delay in getting documents from the government, the commission sources said.
The sources also said that it was not necessary to call all the witnesses for cross-examination personally. “We can issue interrogatory (written questions) to them,” they added. A person would be summoned for cross-examination only if the commission was satisfied that he needed to be questioned, the sources said. The government, while appointing the commission on April 24, had given it four months time to submit its report.
