The Government expects the Agra summit to top parliamentary agenda at the start of the monsoon session and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will make a statement in both Houses on the deliberations held with Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf. The Government is prepared for a debate "under any relevant rule" on the Indo-Pak summit in both Houses of Parliament.
The Prime Minister is expected to use the forum of Parliament to state the "Indian case" on the Agra summit and take into account the points raised by Gen Musharraf at his well-publicised "breakfast interaction" with Indian editors and the post-summit Press conference in Islamabad. The Government's managers feel that Mr Vajpayee would be able to utilise Parliament to nuetralise criticism that Gen Musharraf was being allowed to "get away" with a one-sided version on the summit.
