After last Saturday's storming of the state assembly by VHP and Bajrang Dal activists, calm prevailed outside the sprawling complex amidst tight security. More policemen were in position frisking people and vehicles entering the complex while a large portion of the main Mahatma Gandhi Marg outside was closed to traffic.
The quiet outside, however, was in marked contrast to the fiery demand of opposition members in the house for a ban on the VHP and Bajrang Dal.
Inside the complex, the broken flower pots and shattered glass panes had been cleared after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the building on Sunday. Meanwhile, 67 persons belonging to the two organisations including nine women had been arrested and lodged in the Bhubaneswar special jail after being produced before a magistrate.
The government had already ordered an inquiry by the crime branch into the incident.
