New Delhi, June 05: India today described as "internal problem" the developments in Myanmar in the wake of detention of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi at a military camp near Yangon and said it supported UN efforts for consolidating the process of national reconciliation through dialogue and peaceful activity in the country.
"India is watching the developments in Myanmar closely and with concern," an external affairs ministry spokesman told reporters here.
Stating that India has consistently supported efforts of restoration of democracy in Myanmar and had welcomed Suu Kyi's release in May last year, the spokesman said "India believes that solution to internal problems must come from within and external pressure can be counter productive."
India also feels that the intermediary role of UN representative Razali Ismail for promoting a dialogue between the government and National League for Democracy there should be encouraged, the spokesman said.
