"Security forces averted possible tragedies by detecting and defusing 28 IEDs in Jammu and Kashmir, where a huge quantity of RDX and other explosives were recovered and a Congress worker and a militant were killed since Saturday," a police spokesman said on Sunday.
"Police detected and defused 28 IEDs, planted by ultras in Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu districts, since Saturday evening," he said, adding, "18 IEDs, weighing 22 kg, along with detonators, were recovered from Flora village in Jammu Sunday night. Two IEDs each were detected and defused in Kalakote area and near the Line of Control at Laam in Rajouri district."
Security forces recovered two IEDs in the form of a pressure cooker and a cycle seat, weighing three kgs each, on Poonch-Rajouri road at Dundak. Militants planted four IEDs in a religious place close to LoC at Bhawani in Rajouri district. These were later defused.
"A police party recovered two polythene bags containing an RDX packet fitted with cycle seat, 16 other packets of RDX each weighing one kg, one anti-tank mine, 16 time pencils and 16 detonators from Pannu-Di-Hatti area under the jurisdiction of Dhomana police station in Jammu Saturday night. However, none was picked up in this connection," the spokesman said.
"He said militants kidnapped and later shot dead a Congress activist, Abdul Khaliq , Anai at Hard Aboora near Kunzar in Baramulla district Saturday night.
"In another incident, army confronted a group of LeT militants at Naninara-Sumbal in Baramulla Saturday night and in the ensuing gunbattle, a militant was killed and an AK assault rifle, five grenades, one UBGL and some ammunition were recovered from him," he said. Bureau Report
