New Delhi, Apr 19: Alleging a "sinister political conspiracy" behind VHP firebrand leader Praveen Togadia's arrest by the Congress regime in Rajasthan, the RSS today threatened to launch a massive movement if he was not released immediately.
The RSS also indicated that its front organisations may challenge the state government order itself banning possession and distribution of tridents.
In a strongly-worded statement here, RSS chief K S Sudarshan described the ban order as "patently illegal and unconstitutional" and said "distribution of symbolic trishuls, which do not come under the arms act, can by no stretch of imagination be branded sedition."
"It is a great tragedy that a government that could not discharge its duties in curbing the activities of militants and ISI agents in the sensitive border state, chooses to punish unswerving patriots like Togadia by branding them as deshdrohis," he said.
The state government's "hasty retreat and withdrawal of charges" confirms its "malicious intentions," Sudarshan said.
The state government, he alleged, was greatly worried over the "rising tide of Hindu awakening in the entire country in general and in Rajasthan in particular and resorting to illegitimate and provocative acts in desperation."
The RSS chief asked the state government to remove all hurdles in the way of the immediate release of Togadia and others failing which he warned, "The Hindu society will be compelled to launch a massive movement in the state."
