Mumbai, July 20: A significant rise in foreign currency assets lifted the total foreign exchange reserve up by USD 784 million to a record high of USD 58,789 million during the week ended July 12, 2002. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) weekly statistical bulletin, the foreign currency assets contributed to almost the entire gain in forex reserve. Out of the total USD 784 million increase in the forex reserves, foreign currency asset's share stood at USD 783 million, while the Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) added USD one million.

Gold reserve, however, remained unchanged at USD 3,330 million (Rs 16,272 crore) during the week.
The total forex reserve of the total USD 58,789 million, included foreign currency asset of USD 55,449 million, gold reserve of USD 3,330 million and SDRs USD 10 million. Bureau Report
