Rajahmundry, Nov 13: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asserted that to prevent Godavari river waters flowing into the sea, Polavaram project will be taken by the state government soon. Speaking at a public meeting at Talluru village in Jaggampet Mandal of East Godavari district after laying foundation for Pushkara lift irrigation scheme, Naidu said every year 3000 tmc of Godavari water is flowing into the sea and to prevent the flow, Polavaram project will be taken up by his government soon.
Stating that the project will be a boon to the residents of East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Visakhapatnam districts, Naidu said once the project is completed there will not be any scarcity for drinking water and irrigation.
By taking up this project, an additional 758 mw of power will also be generated which will be a boon to the people of this area, he said.
Pushkara lift irrigation scheme, being constructed on 1,86,000 acres of land, will be irrigated and the project will be completed within three years.
This scheme will be the second largest project in this district next to Chagalanadu scheme and the entire dry areas of the East Godavari district will benefit with drinking water and water for cultivation, Naidu said.
The government has also submitted proposals for new projects like Ichampalli in the Telangana area, Naidu said and assured that arrangements will be made for getting fair prices to the cultivators for their products.
