New Delhi, Nov 06:The war of the whores could turn dirty with newcomer Anupama Verma promising to deliver a lusty performance in Anant Balani's film about life in the red light area.
Verma insists her hot item number will be a body blow for Bollywood queen bee Kareena Kapoor who plays a prostitute in 'Chameli'. After the lukewarm response to her debut opposite Jackie Shroff in 'Grahan', the former Delhi model and Channel [V] anchor is unapologetic about stripping for success.
"Kareena is senior to me in the industry and I have a lot of respect for her. But in the film I get just a few minutes to make an impression and if it means exposing, so be it. I am quite comfortable taking off my clothes in front of the camera and find nothing wrong or vulgar about item songs," she says.
Verma, whose enviously thin figure and stunning yet fragile good looks first got noticed in Biddu's 'Boom Boom' video, admits picking up tips from sex workers for her role. "While the song I am doing doesn't actually involve prostitutes, I learnt a lot from the way they perform. The script demanded that I be completely shameless on screen and if it gets men in the audience all hot and bothered, so much the better. In fact it's a little disappointing that I am not playing a prostitute in the film," she quips.
The fact that Bebo too has been seen frequenting Mumbai's red light district doesn't bother the Braun-Silk Epil girl who was romantically linked to tennis ace Mahesh Bhupati in the past.
According to her: "My role is small but powerful and people are bound to notice. Besides I am a newcomer and expectations will consequently be less. I should therefore be able to impress quite easily."
