The Centre has agreed to give financial assistance to Uttaranchal on the basis of 90 percent grant and ten percent loan as given to special category states, chief minister Nityanand Swami said on Wednesday.
The Planning Commission has agreed to give any central assistance to Uttaranchal on the basis of 90 percent grant and ten percent loan with retrospective effect since the new state came into being, Swami told newsmen after a meeting with deputy chairman of the Planning Commission K C Pant on Tuesday in New Delhi. He said that it is now a mere formality for the National Development Council (NDC), which is meeting on September one to approve the special category status to Uttaranchal, already approved by the union cabinet. He said that the Uttar Pradesh government has also agreed to hand over the ownership of the Tarai Seed Development Corporation (TSDC) to Uttaranchal. Uttar Pradesh government has also agreed to divide the assets of servicemen welfare fund board on the basis of the ratio of the servicemen in the two states, he added.
Swami said that he also met union Human Resource Minister M M Joshi and asked him to prepare the report on the Tehri hydroelectricity project at the earliest. Joshi is heading an eleven member central committee on the Tehridam project, which is looking into the concerns expressed by the VHP and environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna.
