Patna, Feb 18: Three empty coaches of the stationary Patna-Puri Express caught fire in mysterious circumstances at the railway yard of Patna junction here this afternoon, railway sources said. The assistant divisional railway manager, Danapur, A K Verma, said that while one sleeper class coach was completely gutted, two others were partially burnt.
He said that prima facie the incident appeared to be the handiwork of miscreants as no technical fault could have led to the fire because the train was stationary.
Eyewitnesses complained that the fire brigade reached the spot one hour after getting the information by which time one bogie was completely gutted and two others were also badly burnt.
The railway authorities and the police have begun investigations, Verma said.
