Bikaner, Oct 07: Neyveli Lignite Corporation has decided to take up the Barsinghsar thermal power project in Rajasthan at a cost of Rs 1,800 crores, official sources said on Tuesday. Two units of 250 mw each would be set up under the project to use the huge lignite deposits available in Barsinghsar area in Bikaner district, they said.

While the sanction for the project from public investment board is in the final stage, the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), is likely to be signed this month, they said.
The project, to be completed in three years, would get 45 cusecs of water from Indira Gandhi Canal for which the state government has already accorded its sanction.
The power generation using lignite, called brown coal, found in huge quantity in western Rajasthan, had been pending for the last 50 years. More than half a dozen national and international companies had come forward to implement it during all these years, only to be retracted because of various hitches. Bureau Report
