Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee met Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami and discussed with him the situation in Afghanistan and their role in a post-Tablian scenario. The meeting took place on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly. Iran, an important neighbour of Afghanistan, and India have similar views on the Taliban regime and are in favour of a broad-based multi-ethnic democratic government after the fall of Taliban.
Vajpayee also met Presidents of Cyprus, Argentina and South Africa. Khatami had also met Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
