Bangalore, Aug 25: Left-arm spinner Murali Kartik is not despondent with the way his career has shaped so far and is striving to improve his batting to once again break his way into the National squad.
With the team management largely opting for only two spinners, Kartik said he could only bide his time. "I have to look at the position where I am in right now. I am competing for a spot occupied by two revered people (Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh) who have taken wickets at the international level," he said.
"From my point of view, it's a question of doing well consistently and I hope to do my best," Kartik told reporters at the conditioning camp here.
"If there is a chance for a third spinner, I want that (slot) to come to me," Kartik, who has so far made six comebacks into the National squad, said.
Kartik also said he was trying to break into the side again, by improving his batting so that he could chip in with a few runs. "In top teams like South Africa and Australia, there are players at the bottom of the order who chip in with a few runs. If I can do that, I can find a place in the squad," he said.
