Russia on Wednesday appealed to India and Pakistan to display restraint and launch peace efforts to diffuse current bilateral tensions.
Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement here, expressed concern over tension in India-Pakistan relations "provoked by extremist attack" on Indian Parliament on December 13 last year.
The statement came at the end of talks between visiting Pakistani Additional Secretary Anisuddin Ahmad and Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Alexander Losyukov and Anatoly Safonov in Moscow.
Among the issues discussed in the talks were prospects of bilateral Russia-Pakistan relations, including combat against terrorism, religious extremism and illegal drug trade, the statement said.
Moscow and Islamabad have expressed readiness to closely co-operate with other countries in seeking a comprehensive solution of the Afghan crisis and rebuilding of Afghanistan's economy and social infrastructure.
Ahmad is the third Pakistan envoy to visit Moscow in less than two months as part of Islamabad's drive to improve relations with Russia and seek Moscow's mediation in resolving the outstanding issues with India. Bureau Report
