Mumbai, Sept 23: A newly released Indian film is inspired by the real world of Mumbai's male strippers, a subject never before featured on Indian screens. "Oops!" the directorial debut of former Bollywood actor Deepak Tijori, revolves around two friends, Jahaan (played by TV actor Kiran Janjani) and Aakash (newcomer Vikas Sethi), who work as extras in Bollywood films.
The film follows the comedic misadventures of Aakash and Jahaan after they are hired by a wealthy actress to put on a private strip show. Soon, word gets out, and the two struggling actors find themselves stripping for wealthy housewives who feel neglected by their workaholic husbands.
While Tijori denies that the film is inspired by "The Full Monty" -- even though it includes a scene in which the two male leads watch the British hit from 1997 -- he emphasizes the story is based on a real-life phenomenon. "I am trying to present a new face of urban India with this theme because not many people know that male strippers are a reality and (that) they perform private shows for rich, bored women in urban cities," Tijori says.
