Peshawar, July 23: A land mine exploded today in a remote northwest tribal region, killing one tribesmen and wounding two others, a government official said. It wasn't known when the land mine was planted in Bajaur agency, a tribal region about 250 kilometers northwest of Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's north west frontier province, said the official, Zahid Jan. One of the injured men was listed in serious condition. The three men were walking to Dabar village when one of the men stepped on the land mine. An investigation was underway, Jan said. Bajaur agency is a semiautonomous region on the border with Afghanistan, where feuding tribesmen often lay land mines to defend against their rivals.
