Silvis, Sept 14: Former champion J.L. Lewis jumped into a two-shot lead in the John Deere Classic on Friday. Former champion J.L. Lewis shot a second round six-under-par 65 on Friday to jump into a two-shot lead in the John Deere Classic. The 43-year-old, whose only victory in 14 years on the PGA Tour was in this tournament in 1999, matched his opening round to be on 12-under 170.
Overnight co-leader Jonathan Byrd, last season's PGA Rookie of the Year, carded a four-under 67 to lie second while world number four Vijay Singh fired a 68 to be third on 134. Chris Riley and Paul Stankowski are tied for fourth another stroke back. German Bernhard Langer also shot a 65 and climbed into a three-way tie for sixth with former British Open champion Justin Leonard and Kevin Sutherland. Play was suspended for 35 minutes in the morning after heavy rain, while eight players have yet to complete their second rounds after darkness halted play early. None of the eight are within five shots of Lewis. Davis Love III, world ranked number five, finished the round 10 shots off the lead.
