Jaipur, July 07: Alleging gross irregularities in the disbursal of cash assistance in drought affected areas in Rajasthan, the state unit of BJP today demanded a CBI probe into the issue.
Party general secretary Narpat Singh Razvi told a press
conference here that the Centre had provided about 26 lakh
tonnes of foodgrains and financial assistance to the tune of
Rs. 6700 crore under various schemes but they were
"misutilized" by the Gehlot government.
As against a target of 75 lakh mandays, the state government extended famine relief jobs to 20 lakh people only, and the foodgrain share from the central assistance was cut to less than fifty per cent, he alleged, adding the rest of the foodgrains was sold in the local grain markets or stored in the godowns.
Citing cases of foodgrains bungling and private sale as detected by the police at Sikar, Bharatpur, Banswara recently, Razvi said the Congress government was drawing political mileage by distributing it among the tribals in Udaipur division.
On the power front he said the farmers were yet to get 8 hours of uninterrupted power supply. He claimed that transmission and distribution losses had gone up to 46 per cent as against 29 per cent during BJP rule and the sub-station installation rate was very poor in villages.
There was glaring difference of 40 per cent in power availability and peak demand period, he said.
