Vijayawada, Aug 07: Communist Party of India (Marxist) today said the Supreme Court ruling against employees going on strike would infringe on the democratic rights of the people. "The ban by the apex court will cut the fundamental rights of the working community in the country," party politburo member Koratala Sathayanarayan told reporters here.
Sathayanaryana, here to attend party's farmers convention said that going on strike or sitting on dharna was not new to the country and "strikes were organised even during Mahatma Gandhi's time".
"Even according to international labour law strikes were not banned anywhere in the world and the judgement without finding the facts was really unfortunate for the country," he said.
The very reason which forced the employees to take a unanimous decision to go on strike was not even probed by court. "If necessary a commission would have been asked to look into all aspects," he added.
Referring to government's decision to ban sale of soft drinks in the Parliament, Sathayanaryana said it would not solve the problem and added that they should be banned in the country.
