Ludhiana, Nov 17: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) headed by Simranjit Singh Maan today demanded the recognition of Pakistan Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and formation of other Prabandhak committees world-wide. Maan told reporters that Pakistan has set a unique precedent by allowing the Sikh minority to form its own politico-religious body.
He said that Shiromani Gurudeara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) should pass a resolution in this regard at its meeting to be held on November 20 at Amritsar.
He said that his party has sent a memorandum about this to the SGPC chief, G S Tohra.
In the memorandum it was also proposed that a special committee should be set up by the SGPC to go into the entire gamut of issues relating to the functioning of jathedars and creation of a secretariat for the Sikh institutions.
He said that the role of the SGPC in the appointment and dismissal of jathedars to Sri Akali Takhat and other Takhts in recent past has brought a lot of ignominy to the Sikhs.
"This could be undone only by formulating a system and setting up of parameters and guidelines for the appointment, qualification, impeachment and dismissal of jathedars. Several other reform proposals were also made in the memorandum," he said.
