Raipur, Sep 02: Chhattisgarh government today confirmed the death of ten people in the flood-affected 1,042 villages in six districts of the state since Thursday last even as the state government has sought immediate Central assistance saying the initial estimated loss is Rs 205 crore. Because of the heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday last, 1,042 villages under 31 tehsils spread over six districts were affected, Chief Minister Ajit Jogi told reporters here.

So far ten people and 246 livestocks have been killed in the flood whereas 4.1 lakh people have been affected and 16,883 houses collapsed, he added.
While 2.44 lakh hectares of standing crop have been affected in Raipur, Mahasamund, Bastar, Janjgir, Raigarh and Rajnandgaon districts, the initial report sent to the Centre said that the initial estimated loss is to the tune of Rs 204.64 crore, he said.

Meanwhile, the state relief commissioner M K Raut told news agencies that the state has sought immediate assistance from the Central Calamity Fund but the flood situation is improving fast and the water is receding from the submerged areas.
Raigarh district collector Subodh Singh told news agencies over phone that the flood waters have also started receding fast in the 14 villages that were submerged in the Mahanadi water despite there was rain since yesterday night.

After the receding of water, some people have also left the relief camps to take stock of their houses, he added.
