Jammu, Feb 15: The chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Bhim Singh has resigned from the Coordination Committee of Coalition partners in the state, saying that the Committee has become "defunct" and ceased to serve any purpose. "I have sent a letter to AICC president and chief patron of J&K Coordination Committee, Sonia Gandhi, in which I have said that I have resigned from the Committee on the ground that the Committee has no purpose at all nor has it functioned in accordance with the aims and objectives of the Committee," Singh told reporters here. He said the Committee, which was constituted in November, 2002 by AICC chief to monitor the functioning of the government and implement the common minimum programme (CMP) of the coalition partners, has become "defunct" as it has not been taking up issues in accordance with the CMP. Dubbing the Committee as a "show piece," he said it never took JKNP into confidence and added that the party has no justification to be party to such matters which is only decided by Congress and PDP. Pointing out that the government inducted ten ministers in the ministry recently without consulting JKNPP and another partner like CPI(M), he said the state government has become a "monopoly" of PDP and Congress. PDP and Congress have also taken decisions on their own on the matters of induction of MLCs, distribution of RS seats, chairman of some corporations and appointment of 100 advocates as departmental attorneys without caring to consult other coalition partners, he added.
