New Delhi, Aug 11: In the wake of recent findings by an NGO vis-a-vis the pesticide-level in colas, several political parties today asked the government to ban such soft drinks and initiate legal action against the concerned MNCs. "Government must ban these soft drinks throughout the country and not only in Parliament. The people of the country are still vulnerable to dangerous effects of pesticides and insecticides present 70 times above the EU norms," Bhartiya Sanyukt Loktantrik Party president and MP Rajesh Ranjan said, leading a demonstration against MNCs Pepsi and Coca Cola to Parliament here. Ranjan demanded the government should conduct its own inquiry into the matter and a constitutional amendment should be passed by Parliament banning all such MNCs. In another demonstration, led by Third Front chairman Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the activists demanded resignation of Union Health Minister Sushma Swaraj and Delhi Health Minister A K Walia for not initiating legal action against the two companies.
"Pota should be slapped against all these multinationals as in the garb of soft drinks these people are playing with the lives of the masses," Bidhuri said. Bureau Report
