Bagram air base, June 03: A convoy of four trucks carrying fuel for US-led coalition forces was ambushed by unknown attackers in southeast Afghanistan, a US military spokesman today said. "Four fuel trucks were ambushed en route to the fire base at Urgon-e yesterday morning," Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Lefforge told reporters at Bagram air base 50 km north of Kabul.

There were no casualties, he said. One vehicle was damaged but could still be driven to the base in Paktika province bordering Pakistan.

Lefforge said quick reaction forces and special forces responded but did not come across any of the attackers.

"There was no contact with the quick reaction forces, special operation forces. When they arrived at the place there were no enemy forces in that vicinity," he said.

Meanwhile an Afghan militiaman was killed and 14 other were injured in a road accident near the southern city of Kandahar.

"The cause of the incident is under the investigation, but it was not related to combat operations," he said.

A US-led coalition force of some 11, 500 troops is currently hunting down Taliban and al-Qaeda holdouts who regularly launch attacks on foreign and government targets.
