Jammu, Aug 04: National Conference today demanded
compensation of Rs 50,000 each for every family of border
migrants in Akhnoor Tehsil of Jammu division for the losses
suffered by them due to recent heavy rains.
"The heavy rains have washed away all the possessions in
the Devipur camp where 1289 such families are living," NC
provincial president Ajay Sadhotra told reporters here.
Sadhotra, who visited the camp along with some party functionaries, said the migrants were living in miserable conditions with torn tents and recent rains have added to their plight. Accusing the state government of ignoring their problems, he appealed to Governor S K Sinha to intervene in the matter.
A Rs 50,000 compensation should be given to each family immediately, he said.
