New Delhi, Nov 26: The BJP today hit back at Assam government and RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav's charge that the Centre's inability to rush adequate security forces was
responsible for escalation in anti-Bihari violence in Assam saying law and order was a state subject.
BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said the statements by
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Yadav were "strongly
condemnable" as it was the state government which had to deal
with law and order problems and not the Centre.
"We take strong objection to the statements by Bihar's functional chief minister Laloo Yadav and Assam Chief Minister. Instead of apologising for what has happened they have the audacity to attack the central government. They have crossed all limits, Naidu told reporters here.
Law and order was a state subject and the two state governments have to take the necessary steps to check the problem to ensure that situation did not get out of hand, he said adding "the Centre has done maximum possible to help these states and they are now responsible".
The states have been unable to use central forces, the situation had worsened and it was upto the state governments to take the necessary steps to ensure restoration of normalcy," he said.
