Chandigarh, June 15: Accusing BJP of "engineering communal hatred" among the people, the CPI-M today said the saffron party was "the biggest threat to unity" of the country. "Country's peace and unity is under continuous threat from the BJP," CPI-M general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet told reporters here.
He said the target of CPI-M was to remove BJP from power. Hailing as "positive step" Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's recent announcement that her party was open to alliances with secular forces in future, Surjeet said, "It's a good development that the Congress had started facing the reality."
He said there was complete cooperation between the left forces, including the CPI and the CPI-M, at the national level.
The CPI-M leader flayed the reunion of the two factions of Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab saying this will flare up communalism in the state. He appreciated Congress government in Punjab for its drive against corruption. Bureau Report
