London, Oct 06: Andrew Flintoff was today ruled out of England's two Test tour of Bangladesh with a groin injury.
Flintoff is replaced by Kent seamer Martin Saggers, who will join the squad from South Africa where he is playing club cricket.
Saggers was included in England's provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup in South Africa earlier this year, but didn't make the final cut. "Andrew Flintoff has continued to suffer pain in his groin and has not recovered sufficiently since the last Test against South Africa to pass a pre-tour fitness Test," England Cricket Board medical officer Dr Peter Gregory said.
Flintoff was man of the series in the 2-2 Test series draw with South Africa this summer. He said he hoped to be fit for the one-day international series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in November and December.
"It's disappointing but we have a big winter ahead and this looked like a good opportunity to work on it and get it strong for the rest of the winter," Flintoff said. The England squad flies to Dhaka tomorrow. The first Test starts October 21. Bureau Report
