Surat, Aug 09: Umra police today conducted voice test of Sunanda Shetty, mother of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and an accused in a case of alleged extortion. The spectograph test, conducted in a digital studio here, lasted for two hours, police said.
Her voice sample would be sent to a forensic laboratory to match it with the one figuring in an alleged telephonic talk on the basis of which she had been booked in the case.
Earlier, Sunanda presented herself before Umra police station in keeping with a judicial directive. The court had rejected police plea for 14-day remand of Sunanda but asked her to report to police as and when required.
Sunanda was accompanied by her lawyer Kalpesh Desai. Police interrogated her till 5 pm In the presence of a lady constable in keeping with the supreme court guidelines.
She has been asked to turn up tomorrow morning for further interrogation. She is likely to be questioned from 11 am to 5 pm as per the court directive, police sources said.
Sunanda and her husband Surendra are facing the charge of "hiring" gangsters to recover Rs 80 lakhs payable to their daughter Shilpa by a saree manufacturer Pankaj Agarwal for working in an ad film. Surendra has secured bail, while Sunanda's plea for bail is pending.
Police also claim to have in their possession recorded telephonic talks between Surendra, Sunanda and Agarwal which reveal that the businessman was threatened to pay Rs 80 lakhs or face dire consequences.
Sunanda's voice test was undertaken to match with the one figuring in the alleged telephonic conversation. Bureau Report
