Agartala, July 18: The much-awaited bus service between Agartala and Dhaka would begin from August 09, official sources said today. Modalities for the bus service, to be flagged off by Minister of State for Surface Transport B C Khanduri, would be finalised in a meeting between representatives of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) on July 21 in Dhaka, the sources said here.

Decision to run the bus service from August was taken on July 16 in Dhaka at a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of India and Bangladesh. The agreement for introduction of the Agartala-Dhaka bus service was signed on July 3, 2001. On July 11, in the same year, a bus from Agartala, named 'Maitri', had travelled to Dhaka and another bus 'Shyamali' came from the Bangladesh capital.

However, commercial service of the bus route could not start due to change of government in Bangladesh. Tripura transport minister Sukumar Burman earlier said "Maitri" was kept ready for plying between Dhaka and Agartala, a distance of 155 km, which would take about four hours.
